Salmon spawning
Salmon spawning
Areas where salmon spawn on gravel beds after their annual migration from the ocean to the upper reaches of rivers (the salmon run). After spawning, the salmon die and the life cycle starts over again. Salmon spend their early life in rivers and swim out to sea where they live their adult lives and gain most of their body mass. When they have matured, they return to the rivers to spawn. The annual run can be a major event for grizzly bears, bald eagles, and fishermen. This icon may also indicate fish hatcheries.
